Why you should book entertainment in advance

When planning any event, it can be easy to get lost in the weeds and think that the best thing to do is book music and catering, book your venue, and then worry about everything else later.

Entertainment is one of the critical factors for any event; you could have the best catering in the world, but it means nothing if the event itself is boring and your guests are left wanting more. 

What should you do first? 

First, you should start with the venue, whether a country house or a scout hall. You’ll need to book the venue and lock in the dates for the event. 

The next step should be looking at various kinds of entertainment and finding what you think will be best for you and the event you are planning. Check Google and social media to see if anything particular will fit your event. 

Put a list of all the different entertainment that you think would work for your event and a few names of local suppliers you can contact. Take your time with this; you want to make sure that you consider every option. 

When do I book the entertainment? 

After you have your list together, now is the time to start contacting the entertainment that's right for you; you know what date you have booked, so now you need to reach out to the entertainers and begin to find out if they are free for your event and collecting quotes, of course, you don't need to hire every entertainer, but doing it this way means you're guaranteed to find a quality performer rather then just the person you can find at the last minute. 

Why am I spending so much time on this now? 

This seems like a lot of work; you just booked your venue and are already looking at various kinds of entertainment even before you have looked at catering or music. 

First, it's going to take less time to do this. All you need is a couple of hours in front of your computer, looking at Google and sending emails. 

Second, entertainment is the most important thing you can book when everyone leaves the venue. The thing they are going to remember is the entertainment, not the food or what music was playing. If you want to make your event something memorable that your guests will thank you for afterwards, then take your time and look at entertainment early.

Why shouldn't I wait to book entertainment? 

You can! If you are not too worried about finding entertainment and think catering and a DJ are more critical, go ahead and do that. But chances are that when you finally do sit down to book entertainment, everyone is already booked up for your event, and you won't be booking someone you think is a good fit but instead just booking someone free. 

Remember, the entertainment for your event is one of the most important things for your guests. You want to get the best entertainment you can!
